All the guys and I took a tour of Dredge #4, the World's Largest Dredge. It was money well spent to take this tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and extremely entertaining.
This dredge had been sunk in tons of mud years earlier and had to be dug out and the bottom part rebuilt in order for it to be used by the National Parks program.
This is a picture of the dredge before it was dug out of the mud.
The "potato piles" of rocks that can be seen all around Dawson City that were made by the dredges as they moved along the creeks and rivers.
The mats are made of coconut fibers.
After visiting Dredge #4, we stopped at a quaint shop called Claim 33.
Later in the afternoon, we headed back into town, made a liquor run and took a quick tour of the town. I am going to miss having my nightly Mud Shakes.
This is the confluence, where the two major rivers meet, one is crystal clear, one is full of glacial silt.
Main Street in Dawson City is the only paved street in town.
The rest of the roads in town are dirt roads. I can't imagine how messy things are when it rains. Many of the sidewalks are a bit elevated and made of wood.
We took the ferry back to the campsite to rest from the heat of the day before heading out to dinner.
John and Grant took a ride over to see the local golf course that was on our side of the river.
We came back into town to get a bite to eat at The Drunken Goat Taverna before hitting the 8 pm show at Diamond Tooth Gerties. While waiting for everyone to arrive, I walked the dirt streets and took a few photos of the store fronts.
This mural was inside the Drunken Goat.
The show was over, it is 10 pm and the sun is still high in the sky.
