Rob and TerryLee rolled up around 11pm last night. Lights out was around 12:30 am, sun had finally set.

Today, we got up, had breakfast, locked up the trailers and headed over to Stewart, BC and Hyder, Alaska. It was quite a dreary morning, raining on and off. Whenever we were in the truck it rained, but strangely, whenever we wanted to get out of the truck for whatever reason, the rain usually stopped.
We traveled down Highway 37A heading towards Stewart, BC.

The first big thing we came upon was Bear Glacier. This glacier has gotten a lot smaller since the last time Grant had seen it. All the green in front of the glacier used to be covered in snow and ice, this glacier is receding.

As the sign says, Steward, BC welcomes you!

Stewart, BC is the cutest small town I have seen in a long time! The building are brightly painted and very quaint.

Welcome to Hyder, Alaska!

John, Karin, TerryLee, and Julie-Ann are getting Hyderized!

We continued on down Highway 37A heading towards Salmon Glacier. We stopped at the Fish Creek Observation Site on our way.
Here you are supposed to be able to see all kinds of eagles, salmon, and bears from the safety of the boardwalk. We did see eagles and salmon. According to the sheet where they list all the bear sightings from that day and the previous days, the bears seem to be showing up in the river in the later afternoons and we are here in the mid-morning. I guess they get their breakfasts elsewhere.

It's not easy getting pictures of moving salmon.

Look what we saw as we were heading for the truck.
The bear decided to forgo the boardwalk and take a walk down the road instead.

We did come back later in the afternoon after seeing Salmon Glacier and the Granduc Copper Mine, more eagles and salmon, but still no bears for us.

We continue on our journey to see Salmon Glacier.

This tribute was set up for a man who died here in the Salmon River on June 20th.  His truck left the road and plunged 400 feet into the Salmon River below.

It was raining and we came around the corner and came upon this rainbow down below us with the Salmon Glacier in the background.

We have arrived at Salmon Glacier! Let me warn you, there are a lot of photos of the glacier, it is so massive and impressive that I just could not stop taking photographs of it. Clouds kept rolling in and rolling out, the scene kept changing, and it just captured my attention. Were it not for the cold winds blowing and the rains coming and going, I would have stayed there all day. What you see here is just a small fraction of the photos I took.

Do you see the house in the picture below? That should help put the size of this glacier into perspective.

The ice damn under this part of the glacier broke sometime in the past two weeks causing the lake underneath to empty, creating this yearly unique scene below.

I left some Ben's Bells at Salmon Glacier for people to find.

From here, we decided to continue on the road to try to find the Granduc Copper Mine, and we did!

That dot of light is the end of the tunnel, one mile away. Had to really raise the ISO to get the shot to come out at all.

This is the end of the tunnel, a mile away.
